Trauma

Trauma might be caused by any number of events but examples could include: involvement in a conflict, a serious illness, the death of a loved one, an accident or medical emergency, a physical or sexual attack, or being bullied or abused. Trauma can also occur by witnessing a horrible event happen to someone else.

Many of us have suffered trauma, big and small. Most of the time, we come through these bad experiences, recover and move on. However, there are some events in people's lives which can prove so traumatic or frightening that they can significantly affect our ability to live a fulfilling life in the present. For those people, life can be a private hell because  they are unable to move on from their experience which continues to negatively impact their life.

For example, if you have suffered childhood neglect or abuse, it may have left you with ingrained negative beliefs about yourself. Or if you have been sexually abused or raped, you may find it difficult to form and sustain healthy relationships. You may feel your life is blighted by f
eelings of anxiety and insecurity, panic attacks and fears, depression along with intrusive memories, nightmares and flashbacks.

Treatment: moving on

Using a combination of hypnosis and EMDR I will help you to neutralise those negative feelings whilst building up your resilience and confidence. This means that you can live a fulfilling life.

The treatment is gentle and sensitive, yet effective. If you prefer, I can treat the trauma using a technique that does not involve you having to re-live the experience or tell me about it in detail. You didn’t choose for something bad to happen to you but you can take control of how that experience affects you in the here and now. It doesn’t have to stay this way; you can make things better in your present life.

Hypnotherapy will also address some of the problems which trauma sufferers develop because of self medicating to deal with their out of control emotions (eg. using alcohol and drugs and other forms of self harm).
